Today in Paris, a new drag queen scene revives the tradition of chosen families through the emergence of diverse mother figures surrounded by their drag daughters. Isabelle Grosse invited mother-daughter pairs into her studio, staging formal portraits where shared gestures materialize the bonds between them. This studio work is complemented by a series of interviews in which the drag queens articulate their own narratives. Together, the photographs and testimonies form the complete work.

Beyond these mother-daughter lineages, some queens have also claimed sisterhood independent of any maternal figure. This familial semantics reveals the imperative to forge community and mutual support within a Parisian scene that has grown exponentially and become fiercely competitive.
