Embodying gender multiplicity
A l'écoute des genres intérieurs

Two fashion models and an actress ( Lana Ferron ) explore their inner masculinity.

Auditioning Genders is a photographic portrait project that examines gender from a deeply personal perspective. In this distinctive approach to portraiture, Isabelle Grosse invites her subjects to express aspects of their gender identity that don't align with their public persona. Isabelle Grosse deliberately avoids stereotypical imagery; rather than asking her models to perform or adopt another gender, she encourages them to draw from their own emotions and lived experience. Auditioning Genders seeks to capture the vibrant interplay of gender expressions that exist within each of us, bringing them into harmonious coexistence through photography.

The project also explores how photography itself shapes our understanding of gender. Through this work, the artist continues her investigation of frameworks and forms both as social constructs and aesthetic structures.
